How do I order a custom stamp?
It's easy - just let me know what you have in mind and we'll get started from there.
I usually need a rough idea of the design as well as the size. Based on those two things I'll calculate how much time I need to sketch and carve, then give you a quote.
When you are ready to proceed I'll put up a custom listing in the shop for you to purchase.
You can send me a message here.
How long does it take?
All my stamps are made to order and my current turnaround is 12 - 15 days. For custom designs, I usually send sketches in 7 days; depending on the time needed to change the sketch, custom stamps can take longer to complete.
How much does it cost?
The price is based on the size of the stamp and how intricate the design is. I will give you a quote which is multiplied by the time needed to create the stamp and my hourly rate.
Can you make a stamp based on an image I provide?
Yes of course - just make sure you have the right to use the image :) You can send it to tian[at]gantian.se and let me know approximately how big you'd like the stamp to be.
Can you send me a sketch/mock-up before carving?
For custom designs, I'll be happy to send over a sketch for your approval before carving.
You will, of course, have the chance to ask for changes. I won't start carving till you are satisfied with the design :)
What ink pad do you recommend for the stamps?Depends on how you plan to use your stamp :) I myself keep two ink pads at my studio - Brilliance Dew Drops and StazOn archival ink.
Brilliance is a fast-drying pigment ink, perfect for printing on paper and wood. I love it because of its rich color, and the pointy end is super handy when you want to color just a part of your stamp. If you can't get hold of it, VersaCraft is a good substitute and from my experience, it's what craft stores like to carry too. Ask the staff in your local shop and see if they have any recommendations!
StazOn is a permanent archival ink that prints on most surfaces you can think of - paper, fabric, wood, shrink plastic and even glass.
I want to print on fabric/glass/polymer clay/wood/my skin, can I do that?Check out StazOn archival ink. It's a versatile and permanent archival ink. If you wanna print on your skin (yes, you can use rubber stamp to get a temporary tattoo!), try Brilliance Dew Drops instead - it's easier to wash off with just soap and water.
How do I clean and keep my stamps?Keep them away from children and pets, and away from plastic. Rubber melts when in contact with plastic for long and the damage is irreversible.
Dap a paper tissue in water and gently tap away the ink after using the stamp. If you're using an archival ink like StazOn, the ink will be more difficult to clean and I recommend using the Stazon Stamp Cleaner.
Can I/my baby/dog/lizard/kitten eat them?I'm afraid not. Rubber, wood and the glue I use are all inedible and I strongly suggest you to keep you rubber stamps away from children and animal's reach.
I have a shop. Can I sell your products?
I would love to talk more. Feel free to get in touch: tian[at]gantian.se
How is a linocut made?
I start with a pencil sketch, transfer it onto the linoleum block and start carving. Once everything is carved I roll ink onto it with a roller, then print it onto paper using a glass baren.
I have lots of posts on with process photos - check them out here.
How long does it take?
Depending on the size and the design. My smallest linocuts takes a few hours to carve, while the larger ones takes weeks. It's very therapeutic to carve :)
What materials do you use?
I use everything from the pink Speedy Carve to regular gray linoleum. I wrote about the carving materials and tools in this blog post.
I usually print on Japanese Hosho paper with Caligo oil-based ink.
How do you ship your linocuts?
All prints are shipped in a hard tube and are protected with another layer of wrapping paper inside. They are shipped with regular airmail unless requested otherwise upon making the order.
Do you take commissions?
Yes I do :) Feel free to get in touch and tell me a bit about what you have in mind.
How do you post everything?
The trays are shipped in padded envelopes; the posters in tubes and the postcards in envelopes.
When's your next workshop?
For upcoming workshops have a look here.
Do you have workshops outside Stockholm?
I'm afraid not at the moment. If you live outside Stockholm and know of a venue that would work for the workshop, I'd be happy to know! You can contact me here.
Shipping & Payment
Tell me about shipping - destination, duration and cost.
I ship worldwide with Swedish Post's regular airmail and registered mail. Feel free to add the items you want into cart and use the shipping calculator to find out the cost.
With regular airmail, it takes 3-4 days for packages to reach most EU destinations, and about a week to arrive in most non-EU counties. During holiday seasons, considerable delay is to be expected. The time for registered mail is the same, but it's a couple of more dollars more expensive (depending on how many stamps you order) and it comes with a tracking number.
The shipping time is based on Swedish Post's estimation and I cannot guarantee the arrival date of the stamps. Unfortunately there have been incidents where stamps take up to 5 weeks to arrive in non-EU countries, including USA and Australia.
Missing packages do happen but are very, very rare. If, by any chance, your order does not arrive in a month after it's been shipped, I will either issue a full refund or ship a new order to you free of charge.
Is tracking available?
Yes. Please check "registered shipping" at checkout and I will send you tracking information after shipping the order.
Is expedited shipping available?
Yes, please let me know before making the order and I'll make a custom listing for you with the right shipping cost. Expedited shipping takes about 3 weekdays to arrive worldwide.
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept payments through BitPay (for Bitcoin payments) and Paypal. With the latter you can pay with either your Paypal account or a credit card.
I can also send an invoice or Swedish faktura upon request. Please contact me before making the order and I'll send it over.
I received a damaged product. What do I do?
I'm sorry this happened! I try to pack everything carefully, but during long transit things can happen.
If you could take a photo of the damaged product/package and send to me, I'll be happy to either issue a refund or ship a new order to you. My email address is tian[at]gantian.se
What is your return and refund policy?
Each sale is final, including payments made for initial sketches. A refund is only issued when 1) the item is lost in transit or 2) the item arrives damaged.
